The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration Regarding Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
