The evidence is undeniable why Arsenal have become countless pundits' preferred choice to win the Premier League this season.

Examine their performances against West Ham and Crystal Palace versus those identical matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have beaten all of them during this campaign, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Impenetrable Rearguard

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a crucial element why they are looking well positioned to at last realize their title target.

They lead the league for unbreached games (6), shots let in (3), opposition efforts (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the best in the league, with Arsenal maintaining a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Superiority

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but rival sides still struggle to neutralize the Gunners from these chances.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, several additional than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a fear factor. People are just fearful of them and it is great to see."

Title Credentials

What is especially impressive about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City at home - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they maintain victories, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the first time at this point of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on boss Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in search of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far proven successful in remarkable manner, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and boasting the most resilient defense, despite multiple injuries.

  • Unbreached games in three consecutive Premier League games
  • Nearly 6.5 hours without letting in a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across various contests

Former players and pundits have described Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now functioning with belief and determination.
