Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.

His defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
